Extension to a Grade II Listed Building

A Grade II Wealden Hall House. The client's desired a home that reflected their needs and living style whilst maintaining and enhancing the intrinsic value and character of the property. The proposals provided additional accommodation that included a new kitchen; together with a new music room and a glazed gallery link to the existing barn which itself was converted.

The concept of the scheme was for the new extension "building" to be constructed behind a "garden wall" that masked activities behind whist at the same time clarified the entry sequence to the house and visually reinstated the original symmetry of the hall house that was lost when a later brick extension was constructed. The extension, being of single storey does not conflict with the main house and there is a clear hierarchy between the existing house, over the extension.
